Best lens for cropped sensor Canon 80D

Image
I have been looking for a lens that will give me the most out of my camera since it is a cropped frame DSLR and I found that the Sigma 18-35 mm f/1.8 has a lot of the features and price tag that I have been looking for. It is a wide angle normal length zoom lens. It is specifically designed for the use of cameras with APS-C sized sensors like my 80D. I really like the low f1.8 possibility so I can get some cool photos with some good blur in my background. The only thing is I wish it had a little more zoom capability.

October Skies over Clarks Fork Canyon

Image
On October 26, of 2016 I went on a field trip in my Field Methods Geology class here at Rocky. This was taken on my I phone 7. I just really enjoy the river in the foreground and the blue sky to the right and the orangish red clouds. Added a little dehaze, clarity and saturation.

DSLR Vs Mirrorless.

Image
I have been curious about the differences in DSLR vs Mirrorless cameras. I wanted to compare and contrast the pros and cons of the two. Pros of a DSLR:  Better in low light. Autofocus on fast moving objects. More lens options. Some have better battery life.   Cons of a DSLR: Larger camera bodies. (needs to fit a mirror and the prism Means heavier packed weight. Don't shoot as good of video. Pros of a Mirrorless: With a mirrorless camera, you get a preview of the image on-screen. Some mirrorless cameras offer an electronic viewfinder (EVF) that simulates the optical viewfinder. Weight is substantially less.  When shooting outside in good light, your preview on the screen or EVF of a mirrorless camera will look close to the final image. Faster shutter speeds on higher end cameras.  Better image stabilization. Cons of a Mirrorless In some situations where the camera is struggling (such as in low light or with fast-moving subjects),...

August 30th Post

Image
It was early spring of 2016 and my hunting buddies and I were headed on our annual trip into the Bob Marshall Wilderness with packs full of gear and high hopes of finding a few bears. As we trekked through the previous winters snow we crossed paths with old wolf, grizzly and some deer and elk sign. The first few days we didn't turn up any bears so we packed up camp and headed to a new location. About a mile from where we were camped we ran into this beautiful chocolate sow. She didn't really know what to think but never posed as a threat to me or my buddies. We stood around for a few minutes but I was able to snap this quick picture of her before we kept on.

DJI's new Drones

Image
The Future of Arial Photography Photography and videography has changed substantially in the last 5 years, in today's world there is new technology coming out monthly it seems like. And one company that really stands out in the video/photography world is DJi. They have made huge advancements on their drones over the last couple of years and continue to improve. Today August 23, they released the new Mavic 2 drones. The Mavic 2 Pro and Mavic 2 zoom. These two new drones have increased video capability and camera options. A longer flight time and distance along with higher speeds. They also amped up there collision avoidance from only having front back and bottom to now having 10 sensors for all around collision avoidance. But enough with the specs, DJi has allowed photographers and videographers to do things that were never capable before. Now arial shots can be done almost effortlessly and it comes in a pretty small package but at a fairly costly price tag. I use the ...
